The Meaning of Shaman
The term 'shaman,' originating from the Tungus people of Siberia, encapsulates the wisdom of diverse cultures and genders, from wise women to medicine men. This ancient practice, transcending time and geography, remains a cornerstone of spiritualism worldwide. But what exactly does it mean to be a shaman?
A shaman is a healer of the soul. Whether we are struggling with karma from a past life or have experienced a trauma so deep that our soul is damaged in this one, a shaman understands how to bring about the necessary healing.
There are many aspects to shamanism. Most notable is journeying. The basic form is the journey to the Lower world. I use meditation and drumming to take clients into an altered state of consciousness, whereby I help them meet their spiritual helpers, such as power animals and personal guides that strengthen and heal us. Once a person can move easily to the lower world, I will take them to the upper world to help them connect with their spirit guides. Together, these different guides help us to transform and change our direction to follow our primary path.
In my latest book, “When the Birds Stopped Singing,” I dive deeply into shielding, which is essential to preventing negative energy that people carry from entering our space. Shielding your home or workplace will change the energy and draw positive elements from the universe.
One last shaman technique that is a particular skill of mine is the fire ceremony. This is one of the most sacred of Shamanic practices. A fire ceremony is used for many activities, such as healing someone recently diagnosed with an illness, helping someone find a new career, or celebrating a life event like an engagement or wedding. During the ceremony, participants write and burn fire arrows to send messages to the Great Father, Spirit Guides, and Angels to ask for help for themselves or others.
To delve deeper into shamanism, consider joining a local journeying group. I host one at my home in SaddleBrooke, AZ. If you’d like to join me you can register, fill out the form on my website.
