How Making Small Choices Can Lead to Bad Karma
kar·ma : The sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences.
Karma is an overused word, and most people don’t understand its meaning. Karma is an ancient Indian concept that refers to an action, work, or deed and its effect or consequences. Good intent and good deeds contribute to good karma and happier rebirths, while bad intent and bad deeds contribute to bad karma and worse rebirths.
I teach that the consequences of our actions don’t just contribute to the contract we sign in our next life. Bad words and deeds can backfire in our current life. That’s particularly relevant in the age of social media and especially pertinent if you believe we live a single life.
The lack of civility in the world today is disheartening. Whether we are speaking to a neighbor, a member of a club, someone we work for or with, or a relative, bad karma is now constant. How might karma revert? I often see this when a client’s career suddenly spirals downward or there is a series of broken friendships or problems in a relationship or marriage. That’s when you need a wake-up call. Look at how you are interacting with people. Are you coming from a place of kindness or animosity? Authenticity is essential.
Are you getting caught up in bad karma?
Take a moment to sit quietly, reflect, and think about your problems. Write them down and then look at them objectively. What role are you playing? What changes can you make? How can you bring more good karma into your life and stop creating the wrong kind? Are there people who are constantly flinging bad karma your way? If so, block them. Don’t allow them into your life unless they agree to change.
Put more positivity into the world. You’ll be rewarded.
