A is for Angels
I have rarely found people who don’t believe in the existence of angels. Understanding the categories of angels is necessary when you want to draw on their exceptional help.
Let’s begin with the heavy hitters. These are the archangels. They have never lived in human form. The list of archangels is debatable by mine includes Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. Each of these angels has specific strengths that I call on when needed.
I also work with guardian angels. These angels often appear in human form and come when we have special needs, such as the death of a loved one, the loss of a job, or a poor health diagnosis. I find many grandparents and good friends often serve as guardian angels. I have a dear friend who died young of mesothelioma and loved my daughter deeply. She staying in my house and watched over me for many years while I was sick, and now that I’m better, she watches over my daughter.
When I was 16, I had my second near-death experience following a car accident. When I saw the tree in front of us, I didn’t expect to live, and my soul left my body before impact.
After leaving the hospital, I continued healing from a broken neck. I was sleeping on my great-grandparents’ iron bedstead on a feather mattress while waiting for a new orthopedic mattress to arrive. What’s important to understand is that I was sunk into the mattress.
I was in a sound state of sleep when suddenly a bright light appeared in my eyes. It was so bright I couldn’t open them. Then, my body began to rise from the bed until it was parallel to the top of the feather mattress. A great voice said to open my eyes. I told the voice “No,” because I was afraid. The voice said again to open my eyes. I feared this was the Angel of Death and I still wanted to live. I was not yet ready to leave this plane, so I told the voice “No” again. The voice said for the third time, ‘Open your eyes!” I told the voice that I was afraid.
As the light faded and my body lowered back into the bed, the voice said, “Come out of the pit.”
I pondered this vision for many years. Having been raised in the Southern Baptist church, I immediately assumed “the pit” meant hell but that didn’t seem right. Given how unhappy my life was at the time, I felt I was already in hell.
Years later when I was studying shamanism, I received a message to search out the archangel Uriel. He is the archangel of light, of the North, and of the element of Earth. I went into a trance state and asked if he would speak with me.
During my spirit walk, I talked with Archangel Uriel once again came as a light.
I asked if he had spoken with me before and what was his message. He confirmed he came to me to help me from going into despair. He wanted me to seek out people's goodness, understand my gifts, and use them to help others. I keep a symbol of Uriel next to my bed to help me in times of need. I can reach out to him through my different spiritual techniques, whether through prayer, the Akashic Record, or meditation.
Angels are always with us and want to help. Take the time to learn more about the angels that surround you and how to seek their help and guidance.
